2008 Inbound Aviation Scholarship Prize:

Inbound Aviation has awarded their 2008 Aviation Scholarship to Samantha Megee...she has won 10 hours of flying, a log book, and a Basic Aeronautical Knowledge study book.

From all of the students, pilots and instructors here at Inbound Aviation - Congratulations Samantha...Well Done!

Sam, is unassuming, a quietly confident and delightful young adult - I had the pleasure of meeting up with her just before her first lesson...

Sam hasn't had any previous flying experience, but at 14 years of age, she sure is keen to be involved in aviation and to become a pilot. Sam's first briefing today involved taking in a lot of new information on the 'Effects of Controls', and according to her instructor, she did very well. Sam was feeling a little nervous just before her flight, as could be expected, but very excited all the same!

Sam is currently in year 9 at school and has the commendable aspiration of becoming a pilot for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS). While many young people dream of becoming a pilot for the airlines or for the RAAF, young Sam has a strong belief and desire to serve the community in, what she considers, to be one of the most rewarding and worth while services that she knows of - the RFDS. She wishes to use her love of aviation and her skills as a pilot in a role that doesn’t see much fortune or prestige, but doing what is an extremely valuable service to the remote communities that rely on the dedication of these amazing people of the RFDS. Even though it may be a long road to gain all of her qualifications and experience needed for the RFDS, if Sam's heart for others, her effort and focus is anything to go by, I am confident that she will no doubt realize her dream and be flying with the RFDS before too long.

Sam is a member of the prestigious 'Australian Air Leagues' where she has been encouraged to pursue her goals of  becoming a pilot, learn all about good citizenship, teamwork and to develop her ingenuity and resourcefulness. This no doubt helped her to be a 'stand out' when it came to selecting a winner for Inbound Aviation's 2008 scholarship award. It was a tough job for Roger Gration (Chief Flying Instructor of Inbound Aviation), and Manny Peralta (Senior Flight Instructor), to select the final winner from all the applicants, but at the end of the day it was Sam's diligent efforts and enthusiasm, teamed with her strong desire to use her love of aviation to commit back to the community that made her the final winner.
